We are looking for a Freelance Narrative Designer to define and deliver the story foundations for casual titles. You’ll craft engaging plots, relatable characters, and accessible worlds for a mass-market audience, partnering with design, art, and development so narrative supports gameplay from concept through launch and post-launch updates.

About the role
You will create original storylines, character casts, settings, and tone tailored to casual games. Your writing will include concise dialogue, scene/cutscene scripts, quest and item text, and descriptions that support in-game goals. You’ll collaborate in remote brainstorms, communicate clearly across disciplines, and iterate based on playtests and feedback to keep content aligned with player needs and casual-market trends.
Your responsibilities will include
- Concept & worldbuilding: Develop storylines, characters, settings, and tone for casual games.
- Writing: Produce concise dialogue and scene/cutscene scripts that support game goals.
- Gameplay alignment: Partner with game design to weave story into core loops.
- Documentation: Deliver light, usable docs (story bible, style/voice guidelines, chapter/episode outlines) to keep teams aligned.
- Collaboration: Participate in remote brainstorms; communicate clearly with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Iteration: Refine content based on playtests and team feedback.
- Market awareness: Stay current on casual trends to keep tone and themes relevant.
Requirements
About you
- Demonstrable narrative design experience in games, with a portfolio of relevant games.
- Strong storytelling, character creation, and dialogue writing skills tailored to concise, player-friendly formats.
- Solid understanding of how narrative supports game design and accessibility for broad audiences.
- Proven effectiveness working independently and within remote, distributed teams.
- Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
- Genuine passion for casual, story-led play.
