Head of Operations Casual Games (Fulltime)

By May 8, 2024Jobs

Successful games distribution via new game platforms, beyond the traditional app-stores, is taking off quickly. And the web is back, with more people playing on gaming websites every year. CoolGames sees increasing chances to bring our quality HTML5 casual games into the hands of millions of additional players and to scale our business. We’re looking for a Head of Operations to help us seize all these opportunities.

CoolGames and high-quality casual games

CoolGames is a leading HTML5-specialized studio developing high-quality casual games for emerging game platforms. Our games are played by millions on post app-store game platforms, such as Facebook Play, Microsoft Start, Google Game Snacks, Discord and dozens of gaming websites.

And while many other studios with a traditional app-store distribution approach are struggling to gain traction for their games, at CoolGames we see that the demand for our quality titles is only growing. New game channels are gradually but steadily growing their player base and even the web is back as a serious (HTML5 based) game distribution channel.

And this is where you come in! We have plenty of business opportunities and market demand is growing, but to further scale CoolGames we are actively looking for a Head of Operations, who can help increase our operational power, team output and efficiency.

Requirements

About the job

As Head of Operations, you will manage the operations and execution for a multi-team development studio, with varying demands and dynamics: ranging from large, big-budget projects such the development of completely new games, to continuous LiveOps on our top-performing titles or adjusting existing games to fit the specific features of new distribution platforms.

As Head of Operations, you will play a vital role to ensure that the studio runs smoothly: primarily focus on development execution, operational outcomes and getting more shit done with the talented team that we have and gradually further scale the team-size and studio capacity.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strong execution leadership to the studio, inspire and motivate teams through setting personal example, enthusiasm and work dedication;
  • Celebrate with the team when milestones are achieved, but also promote a culture of ownership and healthy accountability to prevent projects from running over time frequently;
  • Help drive output and maximizing both team- and individual accomplishments;
  • Oversee the studio delivery roadmap, from new game development to LiveOps;
  • Directly manage the Game Producers and collaborate closely with the other key studio leaders and help them develop plans to achieve the company roadmap and goals;
  • Implement KPIs to track timely project delivery and development quality;
  • Validate and potentially improve planning and execution processes for the main studio teams;
  • Identify risks in time and balance priorities in accordance with business goals and budget;
  • You will be part of the company’s management team (Soundboard), report directly to the CEO and work closely with the business and product teams to align to the studio goals.

About you

  • You are a “can-do” spirited professional with an ownership mentality who can recognize talent in both colleagues and teams, while not afraid to clearly identify issues and point out responsibilities:
  • At least 8 years of experience in software development: relevant experience in the games industry is a strong bonus;
  • At least 5 years in development leadership roles with direct reports;
  • A proven track record in improving operational processes and increasing team output;
  • Mastery of project management, including Agile methodologies, and related tools;
  • A data-driven personality with expertise in Excel or other tools to track, model and analyze productivity KPIs versus set business goals and company priorities;
  • A strong and motivating communicator, being able to work directly with colleagues from various expertise and backgrounds and people with very different personalities;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English, with the ability to create professional plans and presentations for the team-leads, wider company and other stake-holders;
  • A methodical and analytical mindset with attention to detail. A relevant Bachelor or Master’s degree is a strong bonus.
